Fr. Giovanni Francesco Anerio

From the earliest days of the Oratory, St. Philip Neri and his followers understood the power of music and art to draw hearts and minds to God and inspire them to lead lives of holiness. Fr. Giovanni Francesco Anerio, a priest, composer, and choirmaster associated with St. Philip’s Oratory, recognized as the father of the oratorio, a musical form born in the devotional life of the Roman Oratory, is a fitting patron for our Institute and its mission.
